Don has been active in the community for over thirty-five years. Don initially started his community involvement with what was at the time the Douglass State Bank established in 1947 as a black-owned bank primarily serving the minority community in KCK. Don served as a Field & Marketing Representative developing and working with the private business sector of Wyandotte County. Don developed many community projects that tied county residents to numerous financial opportunities to uplift their lives. This engagement eventually led to what is now Meadowlark Valley Sub-division in the heart of Kansas City Ks. Don was the original developer and driving force of one of the presently newest home developments in the city. During the period of development Don established many productive relationships with local political figures, business leaders and community-based groups.

Don began his education career after Douglass State Bank,, teaching and coaching in the Kansas City Mo School district for nearly 25 years. During this time Don spear-headed numerous community-based programs benefiting at-risk males raising thousands of dollars towards post high school education.

Don has owned and operated several businesses. Don is currently the president of The Omicron Xi- Educational Foundation of Kansas City and extension of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, of which he is a member.

Don presently works in the mental health field assisting individuals with adapting to challenges of life. “I love what I do, this is a ministry, meeting people “where they are and assisting them in pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps.”

Don is very active in his church. Don is a leader in the church’s ministry “Celebrate Recovery”, A Christ -centered, 12 step recovery program for anyone struggling with hurt, pain or addiction of any kind.

Don is married to his beautiful bride Vernita (also a board member). They are the proud parents of five wonderful adult children and nine awesome grandchildren. Don’s life has been and is a life of service, very fulfilling and rewarding. The BEST IS YET TO COME!!!
